Used Riding Lawnmowers: The Answer to Landscaping Needs
Used riding lawnmowers can be the answer to your landscaping needs. Many people start out buying a push mower; they are cheaper after all. But a riding lawn mower is generally a better investment in the long run.
Most homeowners are more likely to maintain their lawns if they have access to a riding mower over a push mower. Riding mowers make the chore of mowing the lawn easier, fun, and less time consuming; therefore they are more likely to be used.
Buying a used riding lawnmower will be less expensive than purchasing a new mower. Since riding mowers aren’t cheap, this can result in substantial savings. Riding mower prices start close to $1,000 for a lower-end riding mower, and can cost over $5,000. Because riding mowers are high priced items, most owners take good care of their riding mowers while they own them. This means you can usually find good quality used riding lawnmowers up for sale. Of course, it is up to you to do your due diligence and ask the owner pertinent questions about the condition of the machine, and any maintenance that has been done or needs to be done in the near future.
Another great reason to buy a used riding mower is the hidden cost savings. When homeowners by a new home they generally have good intentions; it is their intent to maintain their homes and their yards. For yard maintenance, most people buy a push mower first. They believe that they will be motivated to do their yard work, and they know they will also get the added benefit of a workout pushing their mowers around. Depending on the size of your yard, this can be a significant workout. However, what usually winds up happening is the homeowner puts off the chore because of time constraints. Then the property begins to look unkempt, and either the neighbors or spouse begins to complain. Finally, the homeowner will usually contract with a gardener to tackle his or her failed landscaping attempts. And while this frees up time, the annualized cost is higher than the cost of the mower itself.

A riding mower can help alleviate this issue because it cuts the time spent mowing your lawn dramatically, which makes it much more easy to fit in the chore. If you have a teen-aged child, he or she will be begging you to be allowed to mow the lawn. What teen doesn’t want to drive? Who cares if it is a lawnmower, its wheels!
Of course, a riding mower won’t actually mow your lawn for you, you still have to get out there and do the work, or someone else in your household. But using a riding mower will cut the time you spend mowing your lawn substantially. And the larger your yard, the more time savings you’ll realize.
The smart consumer will consider buying used riding lawnmowers over new riding movers or push mowers for all the reasons stated above.
